Ways to Make Your Office Desk Pop with Light

Work is a place that most of us have to venture off to in order to make a living. More than likely, you spend a sizeable amount of time in the workplace, so why not add a personal touch to your space with the help of lights? Dress up the area using tape lights, Christmas string lights, and lamps. Here are a few ways to add a little pizzazz to your desk.

Battery Operated Christmas Lights

As you know by now, string lights aren’t just for the holidays. Use a string of electrical or battery operated Christmas lights to drape over your cubicle walls for a workplace friendly glow.  Although many colors are available, you may want to stick to more subtle tones like clear or amber-orange so as not to distract others.

Another way you may want to utilize Christmas lights in your area is by creating an easy DIY vase. Simply get a clear glass vase, add your favorite colored or clear battery-operated Christmas lights, and cover them with clear pebbles for something gorgeous to gaze at throughout the day. You can also try adding a small bouquet of false flowers for an added touch of elegance.

Lamps

Lamps can be incredibly helpful at your desk, especially if you need additional lighting for reading and writing in you work area. Choose a table or desk lamp that doesn’t interfere with your work area but still looks great. For example, try adding a rustic table lamp to your desk to create a little contrast. When deciding on a lamp, be sure to get one that isn’t too large and bulky for your desk. To ensure less bulk, you can also try using a desk lamp. The bodies are typically thin and adjustable, while the bases are small, taking up very little room.

In Drawer Lighting

Sometimes it can really be a hassle to look for stuff in desk drawers. They are often dark and it can take a while to find things when you’re really rushing to meet that deadline. Why not add a little bit of light to your drawers? Simply place a few strips of adhesive 4-inch LED tape lights on the inside of your cabinets for instant illumination. Keep it simple with cool white or get flashy with green, red or blue lighting. To create this you will need the following items:

  • 36 Watt Power supply for 12 Volt LED tape light or battery pack

  • Power connector cord

  • Tape light

  • Corner connectors

Computer and Desk

Want to give your computer an upgrade? Try adding a few strips of lighting. It’s easy to place USB powered tape light behind your monitor and long strips can be powered by a USB connection. Because they are so convenient and easy to use, try sticking them on the edge of your desk for an illuminated outline, or on the sides of your keyboard and hard drive.

Now that your area is officially lit up, it’s time to get to work. All of the lights should help make your job a little prettier. Have any other ideas for workspace lighting?
