Flyte: The Levitating LED Light Bulb

There are very few light bulbs that combine design and flare in a compelling package.  In comes Flyte and their levitating LED bulb.

The project is being funded through Kickstarter and has already successfully earned over $210,000 against their goal of $80,000, with 740 backers.  The Flyte lamp uses a pair of magnets (built into the bulb and base-plate) that allow it to float.  In addition to keeping the bulb suspended in the air, the magnets also keep the bulb lit through induction, where voltage is induced via a magnetic field instead of physical contact.  Similar power technology is in use by Samsung and Nokia for a few cell phone models.

As for the bulb itself, the Flyte team says it's rated to last 50,000 hours, which means you could keep it on for 12 hours a day and it would still last you over a decade.  Here are the other specs:
