Are You Bright Enough to Set Up Smart Lighting?

Smart lighting is the hottest thing since we started streaming music on our mobile phones!

What is ‘smart lighting’ you ask? Smart lighting is wirelessly controlled light bulbs and light fixtures that can dim and even change color with the touch of your smartphone or tablet. With a quick swipe, you can dim light output, adjust Kelvin or hue, select preset lighting scenes, group lights together by room, and even create lighting schedules to provide the perfect lighting for any situation.

When incorporated into homes, Smart Lighting provides greater flexibility and control over your lighting. Use voice commands to turn the lights on when your hands are full or to turn them off when you are leaving. Working on a craft project or reading? Increase the color temperature to 5000K or higher to help improve visibility. Hosting a party? Change the light colors to match the music beats. Coming home late after dark? Turn on your lights before you arrive home so you don’t have to walk into a dark space. You can also schedule your lights to look as though someone is home even when you are on vacation!

Small businesses can also benefit from smart lighting. Jewelry shops and clothing boutiques can quickly adjust lighting to any output or color to provide customers a better idea of how products will appear in various lighting. LED smart bulbs with RGB color options are a popular addition to any wedding, event, or photo shoot since they can change color quickly without the need for cumbersome gels or wraps.

Setting up smart lighting is easy and usually doesn't require installing wall switches or other hardware. Depending on the bulbs and fixtures, you may require one or more of the following:

  • Control hubs like Samsung SmartThings, Amazon Echo Plus, Philips Hue, or Wink

  • A Wi-Fi network

  • A Bluetooth enabled smartphone or tablet

  • An app for your smartphone or tablet like Apple HomeKit or Philips Hue

  • A voice control system like Alexa or Google Home

Be sure to pay careful attention to the compatibility of each LED smart bulb and fixture. While many products do require a hub, there are some that only require Bluetooth and others that are only compatible with Apple phones. Not sure if your hub is compatible with the Smart Lighting you've picked out? Our friendly staff of lighting experts can lend a hand. Call 1-800-624-4488 to light up your world today!
