5 Non-Traditional Places to use Chandeliers

5 Non-Traditional Places to use Chandeliers

In the past, it was unusual to see chandeliers beyond the “power” positions of a home, such as at the entrance or over the dinner table. It also used to be uncommon to see chandeliers outside of an upscale home. But times have changed. Now, chandeliers are staking their claim in homes of all price ranges and in many types of rooms, adding elegance to common areas and intrigue to unexpected spaces. Although chandeliers are comfortable in many locations, here are five increasingly popular places to use them.

1. Over the Bed

Couples are always trying to redecorate their bedrooms to be more romantic and elegant. For most, changing the lighting rarely comes to mind. But the impact of lighting for setting the right mood should not be underestimated. Hanging a chandelier over the bed could add the romance, elegance, and charisma that all couples want. You could even pair your fixture with dimmable decorative lights to amp up its flirtatious effect even more.

2. Above the Bathtub

Not many people think of the bathroom as a great place for a chandelier, but I’m sure we can all agree it’s a room that could use a touch of sophistication. Since the bathtub is where you give yourself the royal treatment, why not complement the space with a lavish fixture? This might be a little over-the-top (or even impossible) in a guest bathroom, but a chandelier hanging above your tub in the master bathroom wouldn’t be out of place at all—It would even enhance the beauty of a claw-foot bathtub or Jacuzzi.

3. In the Girl’s Room

Every little girl dreams of being a princess. Tiaras, dress-up gowns and play castles may adorn her “bed chamber,” but the setting isn’t quite complete without lighting fit for a princess’s room. A chandelier would be the perfect accent piece to transform her territory into a magical palace. Just make sure to place the chandelier out of reach, especially if your little princess has a bunk bed or likes to jump on the bed.

4. In the Closet

What better way to show off your glamourous wardrobe than with a light fixture that matches it? Adding in this statement piece to your closet will change it from a storage space for your clothes to a real dressing room. Not to mention, it will certainly brighten up the place! Due to the obvious space requirements, chandeliers work best in large, walk-in closets with high ceilings.

5. In the Office

The office is the space in your home where you can be productive and get work done. Many people might assume that removing as many distractions as possible would be conducive to that environment. Be that as it may, a chandelier should not be one of them. Chandeliers have long been a symbol of class, credibility and prestige – an ideal atmosphere for your working environment. Not to mention, it would make a great first impression on those who “step in to your office.”

All in all,  one of the best things about chandeliers is that they come in such a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and designs it would be difficult NOT to find a suitable one for your space. However, as we've said before, there are a few dos and don’ts to keep in mind.
