Charged Up for Seasonal Change
The heat of the summer is well past, and the fall colors are fading fast. The holidays are here, and the forecast is for snow. You’re not one to whine about the shorter days or cold temperatures . . . for you it’s time to break out the winter toys and tools and hit the great outdoors!
First, you’ve got to pack away your warmer weather playthings like golf carts, motorcycles, and boats. Be mindful about preparing them properly for storage. Depending on the vehicle and how long you intend to store it, you may need to charge the battery or disconnect it all together. Be sure to check the manufacturer’s maintenance instructions for each item so as not to cause damage to the electrical system. If you find you need a charger, check the specifications required as some feature alligator clips while others have screw terminal connectors and provide a maintenance feature that keeps your battery from overcharging. Compatibility is crucial when choosing chargers and other battery accessories due to the various chemical makeups of the power sources. Other winterizing procedures may involve adjusting tire pressures, flipping master power switches, covering to protect and keep clean, and emptying/stabilizing fuel containers.
Now it’s time to bust out the winter workhorses! ATVs and snow mobiles can help make winter chores like hauling firewood fun, and snow blowers can clear your driveway in a snap! But if it’s been more than a few months since the snow blower saw action or the vehicles went for any wild rides, you need to get their maintenance logs up to snuff. Nothing worse than hopping on ready to hit the wintery trails only to discover you’ve got a dead battery.
If you properly winterized everything before placing in storage as indicated earlier, it might be just as simple as charging a battery or disconnecting it from the power source. Although if it’s been more than a few years and you can’t remember the last time you replaced the battery, it could be time for some shopping. Depending on what type of vehicle or toy you’re bringing out of storage, the type of battery you need will vary. Fortunately, 1000Bulbs has a variety of voltages suitable for many different needs. So, you can get your winter game on!
