Brush Up Your Space for Less: Make Your Own DIY Light

Brush Up Your Space for Less: Make Your Own DIY Light

There is something very therapeutic about redecorating your living space. Maybe it is the sense of renewal, or maybe it is the feeling of growth that change brings with it. Whatever “it” is, updating your lighting can have an incredible impact on, well, it! But what if you want to add your own flair to your lighting upgrade? Well, if that’s the case, you’re in luck! Here are three DIY lighting fixtures that will definitely bring IT!

Fairy Lantern Table Lamp

To make this DIY light fixture, you will need an empty wine or champagne bottle. Make sure that the bottle is translucent enough to where your fairy lights will glow through the bottle. This lamp will use two light sources. The first will be the fairy lights inside your bottle. Next you will use a DIY Lamp kit to create the top, lamp portion of your light. Finish your lamp with the appropriate LED bulb and a shade that complements your current décor.

Backlit Live Edge Wall Sconce

This DIY light is sure to get you some admiration. The first step is to find your live edge disc. A quick internet search should get you what you need for this. The size of the disc will depend on your space. You will use 2-3 tie connectors to create the standoff for your sconce.  From here, all you have to do is wrap a rope light around the tie connectors. While you can use various colors for your backlight, sticking with a warm white (an amber color) is probably the best bet. You will have a power cord that will hang from your sconce, but you can do a little extra work and run the wires through your wall using a wall wiring kit. Another fun idea with this light is to make several sconces of different sizes, group them together, and make an accent wall.

Wall of Lights and Plants

To make this eye-catching DIY light, you will need a pallet, some mounting materials to attach the pallet to the wall, some artificial succulents, and some net Christmas lights. This DIY light is pretty simple once you have your materials. Start off by adding any mounting hardware needed to mount your pallet to your wall. Remember that pallets are fairly heavy, so you will want to make sure you are attaching your pallet to studs. Attach your net lights so that they hang inside the pallet. Next add your succulents between the planks in your pallet. That’s it! Hang your new light and enjoy the compliments you receive.

Now the only thing stopping you from updating your lighting with a fixture of your own design, is getting started.
